A three-year-old boy remains in hospital after he was struck by a car in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough early Friday morning.
Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said the incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. when a father was crossing the road with his son near the intersection of St-Joseph and Hutchinson streets.

After speaking with witnesses, investigators believe the driver of the SUV approaching the intersection braked but slid through a stop sign and into the path of pedestrians.
The toddler may have slipped from his stroller when his father tried to move them out of harm’s way, according to police.
The boy was rushed to hospital, where he is “stable but remains in critical condition,” said Brabant.
Investigators are meeting with the father and the driver of the vehicle, a 44-year-old woman.
The scene reopened to traffic in the early afternoon.
