All schools in Guelph and Wellington County will close on Wednesday unless a deal is reached between the union representing high school teachers and the Ontario government.
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) announced last Thursday that it will conduct a one-day walkout as their ongoing labour dispute with the province continues to escalate.

In a post on their website, the Upper Grand District School Board, which covers public schools in Guelph and Wellington and Dufferin counties, said all of their schools will close on Wednesday if the walkout goes ahead.
That includes secondary and elementary schools, along with continuing education programs.
The Wellington Catholic District School Board said all of their schools will be closed to students as well for the duration of the walkout.
Both school boards have employees that are members of the OSSTF, which not only represents public high school teachers but also Catholic and public educational assistants, early childhood educators and clerical staff.

In Wellington Catholic, OSSTF represents 267 of their 870 school-based staff.
Upper Grand and Wellington Catholic said they would not be able to safely operate their schools during the walkout and parents should begin to make alternative arrangements.
They said updates will be posted on their website social media accounts.
