SYDNEY, N.S. – The Workers Compensation Board of Nova Scotia says the number of employees getting injured on the job in the province has been on the decline.

CEO Stuart MacLean says significant progress has been made in reducing the number of injuries in the province.

He says the total number of registered claims decreased by nearly five per cent from 2011 to 2012.

MacLean says 275 fewer workers filed time-loss claims in 2012 than the year before.

Those claims are for people who sustain injuries severe enough to miss three or more days of work.

There have been 14 workplace deaths in Nova Scotia so far this year, including the loss of five young fishermen at sea.

That compares to 32 fatalities in 2012, and 27 deaths in 2011.
