A young woman from Winnipeg is preparing to represent Manitoba in the Miss World Canada pageant.
It’s not your typical beauty contest — instead, judging is partially based on charity work done by contestants.
Friday night, Angel Bhathal organized a night of music and fashion in Windsor Park.
It’s one of several endeavors she’s taken on — in hopes of being crowned Miss World Canada.
The "Fashion for a Purpose" event raised $1,000 dollars. Bhathal has also collected $1,000 worth of prizes for the silent auction at the pageant.
All of the proceeds are going to Variety – The Children’s Charity.
“You’re actually not just Miss World Canada, you would be an ambassador for Variety – The Children’s Charity and help kids with special needs, and I think that’s very important & near and dear to my heart,” says Bhathal.
The Miss World Canada event runs from May 3 – 7 in Vancouver.
