CALGARY- Advocates working to save a northeast golf course that’s set to be sold say they are being shut out by the city.
Earlier this year, officials announced that the McCall Lake Golf Course will be sold for development at the end of the 2014 season.
The city has not planned for any public consultations on the matter, but now a former city councillor says Calgarians should get the chance to voice their opinions.

“They’re not going to get away with simply saying ‘this is closing.’ Never,” complains John Schmal, of Save McCall Lake Golf Course.
Still, the city says there is no need for public talks.
“There’s nothing really new to announce,” explains Kyle Ripley, manager of golf course operations for the City of Calgary. “The plans haven’t changed. What was presented in February remains the current plan.”
He adds that Shaganappi Golf Course provides the same services, and sees about 70,000 rounds of golf per season, versus only 54,000 at McCall.
Maintenance, usage and upgrades were all factors in the closure.
A petition is now circulating, in hopes of getting the city to reconsider.
