WHITE CITY – White City’s population has spiked over 30 per cent since last year – jumping from 1,900 to 2,500 people. To keep up with those numbers, commercial establishments are being developed and at least 100 new homes are being built.
“For a community this size, that’s tremendous growth,” said Bruce Evans, Mayor of White City.
The growing number of people living in White City and commuting to Regina has increased traffic south of Highway 1, but that could soon change.
“I think there will be additional commercial development and certainly when that happens, there will be more office space and more local employment,” he said.
Town council is already thinking of what may happen if the growth continues: “I think that within the foreseeable future we will become a city.”
New retailers are already popping up – Robin’s Doughnuts and Boston Pizza are all slated to open later this year. But that doesn’t seem to worry local business owners.
“We’ve been here so long, so I think we have a pretty solid customer base,” said Joel Kish, owner of The Ice House.
