Molly’s Shoes for Haiti still going strong

Brenda Ambrosie is on a mission to send a semi-trailer full of shoes to Haiti.

When Global News caught up with Ambrosie last weekend, she had collected a grand total of 1,000 pairs of shoes. Now, she is at 2,000 pairs and counting.

“Every pair counts. If you drive up with one pair or with 30 pairs, every single pair of shoes will count,” she says.

The initiative is named after Ambrosie’s dog, Molly. Before passing away last month, Molly was ill and needed shoes to walk safely during the final stages of her life.

Ambrosie wanted Haitian earthquake victims to have the opportunity to walk safely, too, while they rebuild their country.

She put a bin in her driveway and an ad on a website. Before long, word had gotten around and Mark’s Work Warehouse contacted Brenda about putting bins in their Winnipeg and Selkirk stores.

Along with the bins, Brenda is taking her trailer around to a different location of Mark’s Work Warehouse each Weekend until March 27. Here’s where she’ll be:

Feb. 20 – Regent Store (9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)

Feb. 27 – Dakota Store

March 6 – Unicity Store

March 13 – Leila Store

March 20 – Kenaston Store

March 27 – Selkirk, MB Store

Bins are also set up in every school in the Seven Oaks School Division, at the Manitoba Hydro building on Portage Avenue and at Ambrosie Lighting.

New or gently-used shoes will be collected until March 27. After that Brenda will be delivering the shoes to Soles 4 Souls, the organization that will distribute the shoes in Haiti.

If you’d like to learn more or make a shoe donation, call Brenda at 612-5575.
