Just days before the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, students in the capital region were getting into the spirit.
In Spruce Grove students at Woodhaven Middle School formed the Olympic rings as a show of support for Olympic freestyle skier Jennifer Heil. Heil is a native of Spruce Grove and will be competing at the 2010 games. She won a gold medal at the 2006 winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
Students at Notre Dame school in Morinville had a special visitor to help them learn about the Olympics, gold medalist Lori-Ann Muenzer. Muenzer, who won gold in cycling at the 2004 games in Athens, Greece was on hand to teach some of the younger students about the upcoming games and to participate in an Olympic parade in the school. Each class adopted a country, and the students made flags and homemade torches to celebrate the games.
The opening ceremonies for the 2010 games in Vancouver go on Friday, February 12th.
