Sexy show heating up the Convention Centre

Organizers are setting up for what’s been promised to be the sexiest weekend Winnipeg has ever seen.

"We’re anticipating big crowds down here, it’s a pretty wild, sexy fun kind of event," said show manger, Darryl Rosengreen.

Tonight through Sunday, it’s estimated 15,000 people will walk through the Winnipeg Convention Center doors for the Taboo: Naughty but Nice show.

"Everything from your adult stores and novelty to lingerie: anything to do with lifestyle, romance or sexuality," added Rosengreen,

Taboo has been a big hit on the West Coast for the past 10 years. But it’s not your typical trade show.

"This is edgier, raunchier: more sex!"

Nothing surprises Linda Zuzanski, who has owned the city’s Love Nest for over 20 years.

"The consumer has changed. It’s gone from a 20% percent female market 20 years ago to, now, the female market being 50% of our customers," added Zuzanski.

In the meantime, others aren’t sure about the customers they might get. When one company backed out, Kerry Johnson was quick to snap up the discounted booth for his hot tub company.

"We’re used to doing home shows and that type of show. So, this is very, very different from anything we’ve ever done," said Johnson.

Right now right he’s next to the guy selling bondage supplies. Jonathon Dickenson says he’ll be demonstrating bondage sheets all night and asking for crowd participation.

"I’m going to have my eyes closed the entire evening," winces Johnson.

If so, he’ll also be missing around the clock burlesque shows, and couples sex education classes.

All part of a weekend offering plenty of opportunities to heat things up.
