Austin Auger, 18, of High Prairie has been charged with one count of Arson with Disregard for Life in connection with a fire at Eagle Manor Apartments in Grande Prairie last November.
Auger was originally arrested on January 20th in High Prairie on two break and enter charges and theft of a motor vehicle. Police also discovered that Auger was responsible for setting the blaze that left over 40 people homeless last year in Grande Prairie.
The fire broke out sometime around 4am on November 29th, 2009. 35 firefighters were dispatched to the scene but were not able to put out the flames until the following afternoon. By then, the roof had caved in and the building was destroyed.
Upon completing their investigation in December, police determined the fire was a result of arson.
Auger, who remains in custody is scheduled to appear in High Prairie Provincial Court on January 25th and Grande Prairie Provincial Court on January 27th.
