Witnesses say a plane clipped a tree before going into the water at Family Lake.

RCMP say there were three people on board at the time of the crash but didn’t release any information on their wellbeing.

Blue Water Aviation confirmed it is one of their planes but declined to give any more information.

According to the company’s website, it’s a family owned-and-operated air charter service based in Silver Falls, Man.

“When our craft got to the site they found the site and they were able to do a sector search pattern,” she said.

“They did a shoreline to shoreline search of the area. Unfortunately they were unable to locate the crash site or the wreckage itself so they returned to the base.”

Captain Mark Bouskill with the armed forces says it helped that witnesses narrowed down the search area.

“A lot of the search is just done visually. We can also connect with electronic searches — basically we are just looking for like a signal like a distress signal from an aircraft that might be in distress.”

The community is 280 km northeast of Winnipeg.
