OPP say they were called to South Frontenac on Saturday around 9:30 a.m. after receiving a report about possible human remains.

OPP would not disclose the location of the remains but said they were found in a remote area.

However, Global News spoke to Lawrence and Clara Austin, who own a property on Opinicon Road northeast of Perth Road Village where they say the remains were found.

The Austins say their friends were duck hunting on their property Saturday morning when they found human bones near a swamp.

The Austins also said their friend could not determine whether the body was male or female because all that was left were bones.

Last week, the Austins claim their son found a backpack and a jacket on their property, but they could not say whether it had anything to do with the body found on Saturday.

Because the investigation is in its early stages, OPP say the identity of the deceased and the cause of death have yet to be determined.

OPP are assisting the chief coroner in the investigation.
