Continuing clean-up efforts following a suspicious fire that shut down Emily Carr University this weekend means the school will remain closed Monday and Tuesday this week.
The campus was initially closed down early Saturday morning after a fire broke out on the fourth level of the Mount Pleasant building.
In a statement, the school says the fire created minimal damage to the research and industry office and the painting and drawing studios on Level 4. There was also some water damage reported in other areas of the building.
Few personal effects or artworks were affected. No one was hurt.
In an update Sunday evening, the school says they hope to open campus and resume classes on Wednesday, October 9 once safe working conditions have been established.
Another update will be provided on Tuesday evening.
Vancouver police say they were called to the campus around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, and are now investigating the incident as a break-and-enter and arson.
Police did not have further information about the investigation.
Any potential witnesses or anyone with information helpful to the investigation is asked to contact Vancouver police or Crime Stoppers.
