Work resumes at Sopa Square condo project

KELOWNA — There was some site cleanup to get out of the way but work has now resumed at Kelowna’s largest private construction project.

The partially built Sopa Square condominium, retail and office space project on Pandosy Street ground to a halt when the developer ran into financial difficulties.

But new funding and a new project management team have allowed work on the project to recently resume.

There are about a dozen workers now on site and that number will double as things ramp up.

“We have mechanical trades on site, cooling and heating coming along,” says Michael Hilverink of Greyback Construction. “We’re going to start up next week, so slowly but surely we going to have more and more trades. Next week we’re going to see the concrete flowing again.”

Phase one of Sopa Square, the retail and office space, should be complete in September.

Construction of the condominium towers is slated to start after that.
