Toronto police say they are investigating after three shootings occurred within a short distance of each other, leaving two people dead and one other injured, in the city’s northwest end.
“Within an hour and ten minutes, there were shootings in three different areas,” Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said..
Police were originally called to Venetian Crescent in the area of Jane Street and Finch Avenue West at around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday for reports of gunshots.
Investigators said armed men fired shots at a teenage boy, who sustained multiple injuries before he was able to escape.
Just after 9 p.m., police said the same men then fired rounds at several homes in the area of 2010 Sheppard Avenue West. Officers investigated but found no victims.
At 9:29 p.m., the suspects fired shots at two men in a courtyard at a Grandravine Drive complex, police said, and both men were critically injured.
Paramedics rushed both victims to hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Delauntae Bryant and 20-year-old Eric Rowe.
A woman, who lives close by and didn’t want to be identified, said she heard the gunshots and fears for her seven children’s lives.
“I was just sitting on the couch and then I heard boom boom boom and I fell down and I start running and I took my baby upstairs,” she said.
“For me, I think it’s a wake up call to move … I don’t feel safe at all.”
There are no suspect descriptions at this time.
Genaro Guido, a longtime maintenance worker at the Grandravine Drive complex, said the installation of surveillance cameras on the property has not helped with security.
“I mention so many times why you not put a station of police here … everybody (is) scared,” he said.
