One man was taken to hospital following a stabbing in downtown Peterborough on Saturday evening, according to police.
Peterborough Police Service say around 6:30 p.m., officers and paramedics were called to the area of Wolfe and Aylmer streets for reports of a man with a stab wound. Police say paramedics treated one person for a stab wound to their back.
The victim was transported to hospital in serious condition with a stab wound and injuries to his left eye.
Early in their investigation, police said the 35-year-old man was walking on the train tracks just west of George Street when he was approached by suspect(s) and became involved in a verbal argument that turned physical.
“During the altercation the victim was punched in the face and stabbed once in the back,” police stated Monday morning.
The victim walked from the train tracks to Aylmer and Wolfe streets where two witnesses came to his aid.
There are no suspects at this time, police said.
The scene was cleared around 9:15 p.m.
