Building bears to send kids to camp

For the first time, Build-A-Bear Workshops and Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation have partnered up to brighten a child’s summer.

One dollar from every stuffed animal built at the workshop that is given a purple heart will be donated to the foundation to help send kids from economically disadvantaged homes to summer camp.

Cyndi Edwards, chief workshop manager, says the campaign has been very well received in Saskatoon and more than a quarter of animals sold in her location have purple hearts.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“When we ask the kids what heart they want to put in their bear, it’s the kids who want to do the purple heart.”

The campaign ends June 30.
