Officers were called to the shopping centre north of Calgary just after 7 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

The shooting, which RCMP believe was targeted, took place in the parking lot near the food court entrance and injured one man.

The victim was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Speaking to media at a news conference on Tuesday, Airdrie RCMP Insp. Kimberley Pasloske said the victim is still being treated for his injuries.

RCMP wouldn’t say if the victim is co-operating with police or if they were known to police. Pasloske also said RCMP can’t say why the victim would have been targeted.

RCMP don’t have any suspects in custody, and have not yet released photos of the shooter.

“The male suspect had a slender build and was dressed fully in black, including his pants, and he was wearing a ball cap and hood,” Pasloske said.

No one else was injured, but the shooting triggered a lockdown and evacuation of the mall. Pasloske said officers used loudspeakers to communicate with patrons inside the mall.

Pasloske said 30 uniformed RCMP officers attended the scene, as well as multiple plain-clothed officers and members of the Calgary Police Service.

Just before 9:30 p.m., RCMP tweeted that the incident had been resolved and that there was no longer any danger to the public.

The parking lot at the mall remained cordoned off until roughly 1 a.m., when officers concluded their on-scene investigation.

RCMP are asking anyone with photos or video of the incident to call the Airdrie detachment at 403-945-7200 or submit them anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

“There’s video surveillance everywhere,” Pasloske said.

“I anticipate that there’s going to be video surveillance from people’s cellphones, that type of thing, and so we are looking for additional video surveillance – if somebody took images from their cellphone, certainly interested in that.”

“People might experience changes in sleeping patterns, changes in eating, shakiness, any of those types of emotional or physical symptoms.”

“It’s just important to connect with supports throughout the community and connect with family and friends, and really discuss the feelings that you’re having,” Wagner added. “And if then things tend to persist more than a couple of days, certainly reach out for professional assistance.”
