A cyclist is dead after a collision with a West Vancouver transit bus on the Stanley Park Causeway Saturday night.
Police said a woman was riding her bike on the sidewalk heading towards Vancouver at around 7:00 p.m. when she fell into traffic and was hit by a bus.
Const. Brian Montague said the woman collided with a pedestrian before falling into the street.
“It looks like the cyclist hit a pedestrian first on the sidewalk, which threw her off balance and into traffic,” Montague said.
The woman died at the scene and police have not released her identity.
Collision experts with the Vancouver police are investigating and officials are hoping to speak to more witnesses to piece together what happened.
“The bus was quite full, it was standing room only… but a number of witnesses on the bus simply left before police arrived. We’d like to speak to those people,” Montague said.
Montague said the sidewalk is a shared pathway where cyclists are supposed to yield to pedestrians.
Officials are also reviewing surveillance video of the incident.
The Lions Gate Bridge was closed for several hours Saturday night, but has since reopened.
