Overcrowding is a growing concern for any parent with a child in public school, but the problem is so bad in Surrey that city officials say they can’t wait for help from the province.
Surrey is collaborating with the school district to build a new multi-use community complex that’s unlike any school seen before; an extended campus for learning, healthy living and sports excellence.
All they have to do is find a way to pay for it.
Right now, two high schools in Surrey are being forced to run separate student schedules, and parents wanted to make overcrowding an election issue.
The city may have the drawings and plans to charge ahead on a new school at the corner of 168th and 24th Avenue, but they are still waiting for a cash commitment from the province to build the school.
