Updated June 29, 2012: The Waldo Canyon Fire has consumed thousands of acres west of Garden of the Gods near Colorado Springs. The fire continued to grow for days near the U.S. Air Force Academy causing voluntary and mandatory evacuations across the west side of Colorado Springs. The massive fire eased slightly on Thursday with the help of cooler temperatures and lighter winds, but destroyed hundreds of homes and forced more than 35,000 people to flee.
