Police investigate stabbing in downtown Edmonton

One person has been taken to hospital after a stabbing in the downtown core.

Edmonton police said the assault happened in the area of 101A Avenue and 101 Street at around 3 a.m.

Police said it’s believed three men were involved in an altercation which ended with one of them being stabbed. It’s not known if the men knew each other, police said.

Edmonton police said the victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Just after 7 a.m., two marked police vehicles could be seen in the area, along with pylons and police tape blocking off the roadway.

Two other white vehicles, which appeared to be peace officer vehicles, were also parked on the street.

A block of 101 Street between 102 and 103 avenues was closed for much of the morning but reopened before noon.
