Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be making a stop in London, Ont. on Thursday for the city’s signature summertime festival.
Trudeau will be in attendance for the opening of Sunfest’s 25th anniversary. The festival was founded by Alfredo Caxaj in 1994.
According to his itinerary, Trudeau will arrive at Victoria Park for 6:15 p.m. and deliver brief remarks.
Despite a federal election mere months away, Trudeau’s visit to Sunfest isn’t political in nature, said Peter Fragiskatos, the Liberal MP for London North Centre.
“It’s the largest multicultural festival in North America,” Fragiskatos told 980 CFPL Wednesday.
“Looking at this, we’re a government, and certainly this is a prime minister that embraces diversity… How appropriate, on the 25th anniversary of Sunfest, how fitting to have the prime minister come and open up tomorrow?”
Although his Sunfest appearance won’t be political, a subsequent stop on the prime minister’s schedule will be.
From Sunfest, Trudeau will head to the Delta Hotels London Armouries for a Liberal Party fundraiser, “An Evening with the Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau,” at 7 p.m.
The $1,500 per ticket event ($750 for those under 35) will provide those in attendance an “exciting opportunity to hear from Justin Trudeau as we count down to the campaign,” according to an event listing on the Liberal Party website.
Sunfest marks the height of London’s downtown festival season and typically sees more than 200,000 people turn out to Victoria Park over the course of the free event.
