The bodies of two teenage boys from Langley, B.C. who went missing while camping on Nicola Lake have been recovered, the BC Coroners Service confirmed Monday.

The BC Coroners Service said a special search team recovered the bodies of Austin Kingsborough, 17, and Brendan Wilson, 17, Monday.

The U.S. team was hired by the families of the boys and used very sophisticated sonar to locate the bodies at a depth of 75 feet below where their canoe was located.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“The couple very kindly came up and didn’t charge a fee,” said BC Coroners Service spokesperson Barb McLintock. “The sonar is way more sophisticated than what our tax dollars can afford.”

McLintock said the incident is not considered suspicious and every sign points to it being a horrible, tragic accident.

The two boys had been camping 150 kilometres west of Kelowna when they were reported missing on April 21.

Searchers later found an overturned canoe in the lake, as well as two hats and a shoe belonging to one of the boys.
