New Target stores ready to open in Edmonton area

Edmonton – Five new Target stores are set to open Tuesday morning in the Capital Region.

Three of the stores are in Edmonton, one is in St. Albert, and one is in Sherwood Park.

The company, which promotes its stores as “one stop shopping,” admits opening new locations in Canada has been a learning experience.

“The big thing is really understanding what the Canadian guests, how they shop, what items or categories they’re most interested in,” says Brian Berg, Senior Vice President for Target Canada.

There are a total of 22 new Target stores opening Tuesday in Western Canada.

In March, Target opened 24 locations in Ontario.

While the design of the Canadian Target stores are different than the locations in the United States, what the stores offer is the same.

“It’s the exact same product. It’s the exact same partnership that we have in the United States,” says Berg.

“We really, again, want to underscore the fact that we’re here to be absolutely competitively priced within this market.”

Target aims at opening 124 new stores across Canada throughout 2013.
