SASKATOON – Spring construction season unleashes traffic restrictions on Saskatoon roads starting on Monday.

A major traffic restriction on Circle Drive starts Monday evening and to keep traffic moving, the city is introducing a zipper merge.

Drivers are asked to alternate turns as the two lanes combine into one through the construction zone.

The zipper merge is supposed to limit collisions that occur when motorists switch between a slow-moving lane and a faster one.

New signage will guide drivers through the merge and Saskatoon police will be issuing fines to those motorists not adhering to it.

From 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, the ramp between Idylwyld Drive northbound to Highway 16 westbound will be closed. Traffic will be detoured via Marquis Drive.

Traffic on Preston Avenue will be also restricted starting tomorrow morning.

Around 9 a.m., northbound traffic on Preston Avenue will be restricted between Circle Drive and Arlington Avenue.
