Police launch criminal investigation after unresponsive child found in Belleville

Police are currently investigating an incident involving a two-year-old child who was found unresponsive at this Belleville residence – Jun 4, 2019

Belleville police say they have begun a criminal investigation after a toddler was found in critical condition on Tuesday.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the east end of Pine Street in Belleville to respond to an unresponsive two-year-old child.

Three witnesses from the scene they saw a man run into a townhome on Pine Street, and run out with the young child. The man then tried to resuscitate the child on a patch of grass outside the home.

The child was then rushed to Belleville General Hospital and was revived.

Global News has learned that the child was transferred to Kingston General Hospital, and as of Wednesday, is in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Officers returned to the Pine Street home on Wednesday to continue their investigation.

Belleville police’s criminal investigative branch and forensic identification unit will be teaming up with the Children’s Aid Society for the investigation.
