John Poole, 59, from Calgary was said to be fishing on the boat.

“It is unknown when and where he may have entered the icy cold waters,” said a press release issued by Cst. Lesley Smith, RCMP spokesperson.

And while authorities have given up finding Poole, an Idaho couple who volunteer their time and sonar equipment to find missing people in lakes is headed to the area.

Gene and Sandy Ralston have successfully located two missing teens in a lake near Merritt. They are now said to be heading to Shuswap Lake to help locate Poole.

The Ralston’s have had mixed success searching for missing people. In 2011, they were unsuccessfully when looking for 26-year-old Cole Barr’s body following more than a week scouring the water where he was last seen after falling off a boat. But in 2009, after fewer than 4 days searching, the Ralston’s found 41-year-old Rob MacLeod’s remains.

The couple have helped recover more than 70 bodies, giving closure to countless families.
