Busy road construction season ahead in Edmonton

Edmonton – You have been warned. The 2013 construction season is going to be big in the city of Edmonton.

$264.8 million is invested in bridges, interchanges, and arterial road paving.

“This year is a busy year for road construction,” says Barry Belcourt, Branch Manager of Roads Design and Construction, in a statement.

“We’ll be adding significant new infrastructure with the Walterdale Bridge and 41 Avenue SW Interchange, as well as starting major upgrades to Stony Plain Road and Argyll Road.”

The city will also continue work on the Central LRT Station and Jasper Avenue Streetscape, the Rossdale Road Bridge over MacDougall Drive, Whitemud Drive and 17 Street Interchange, the Anthony Henday Drive connectors at 66 Street and 82 Avenue, and 112 Avenue rehabilitation.

The city is warning drivers, they will face significant road closures and detours, especially in the downtown core.

Projects like the Walterdale Bridge replacement and the Stony Plain Road over Groat Road Bridge rehabilitation will affect ETS bus routes.
