Gondola to River Valley put on back burner

Edmonton – The possibility of a gondola running from downtown Edmonton to the River Valley has been postponed indefinitely.

The concept was to build a gondola that would travel from Jasper Avenue and 104 Street into Rossdale.

An executive committee announced Monday morning the idea has been postponed; citing concerns about the placement of the proposed gondola, since redevelopment plans for the Rossdale plant are up in the air

The project would have cost the city $34.4 million.

Two companies had come forward with business proposals.

One of the potential vendors estimated annual operating costs to operate the gondola would have been $1.5 million to $3 million.

It was hoped the gondola would have transported 400 people per hour.
