It took 61,000 of Canada’s decommissioned pennies to create one giant Vancity billboard.
The billboard was created with a social enterprise called Starworks, established by the Developmental Disabilities Association.
It will now live at 4th Avenue and Granville Street, facing west, at the entrance to Granville Island.

“The billboard is an innovative way of demonstrating Vancity’s “Make Good Money” philosophy–we want to make good money for our members while creating positive change for local businesses and community, ” said Richard Seres, vice-president, marketing at Vancity. He said it’s a resourceful way to put thousands of out-of-circulation pennies to use and generate employment.
The project has created jobs for six people at Starworks Packaging and Assembly, an arm of The Developmental Disabilities Association, set up to provide employment to individuals with developmental disabilities and barriers to employment.
