Want to get to know your neighbours better? Take a cue from Southdale MLA Erin Selby and get elected to public office.
Selby visited the Morning News to talk about the new K-8 school the province will build in Sage Creek. In the elevator on the way out, we asked her what she likes about her job.
“I can walk around anywhere and I know people on the street, I know people in the grocery store I know them by name, I often know a little bit about them.
“It’s fantastic to feel like your whole neighbourhood is your community, and, kind of, your friends.”

Selby hosted a morning TV show before being elected to office in 2007. Though that job allowed her to meet people, she now gets to know them on a more personal level.
“When you’re on TV people know you, but you don’t know them.
“It’s a big difference when now, as a politician, I can actually say ‘Oh how’s so and so? How are your kids?’ “
