The Township of Clearview has a new fire chief.

According to a news release issued by the township, Roree Payment accepted the position of fire chief for Clearview Fire and Emergency Services on Wednesday.

Payment has worked for the service for 10 years, starting as a volunteer firefighter. He worked his way up to captain in 2008 before becoming deputy fire chief in 2014.

In October of 2018, Clearview’s then-fire chief assumed a new role outside of the township. As a result, Payment was named acting fire chief by council, assuming the responsibilities while the position was vacant.

According to the release, a “competitive process” by a recruitment committee selected Payment to assume the role of fire chief.

Payment will now permanently take responsibility for the overall operations of Clearview Fire and Emergency Services.

In addition, Payment will be responsible for fire prevention, public education, rescue and suppression services.

In the role of fire chief, Payment will be named the community emergency management coordinator for the township and will work collaboratively with Simcoe County mutual aid partners.

According to the release, Payment will also join the senior management team at Clearview Township.
