President Kent MacDonald announced in a letter Tuesday that he will not be renewing his contract at the Antigonish, N.S., school.

MacDonald signed on for a five year term as the university’s president in 2014.

He says he told board of governors chair, Mike Boyd, of his decision earlier this month.

In the letter, MacDonald says his proudest achievement is the creation of the Xaverian Fund, a $50-million endowment for St. F.X. student scholarships and bursaries.
