Vancouver film industry worker dies in workplace accident near Britannia Beach

The B.C. Coroner’s Service is investigating the death of a film and television worker during a workplace accident near Britannia Beach on Saturday, Mar. 9.

Spokesperson Andy Watson said the incident involved a man in his mid-30s from Vancouver.

Watson said WorkSafeBC is also looking into the matter.

On Wednesday, IATSE Local 891, which represents 8,000 members of B.C.’s film and TV industry, issued a statement mourning the loss of Aron Koel on March 9, while pointing people to a Gofundme page raising money for Koel’s family.

According to the union and the Gofundme, Koel leaves behind a wife and three children.

Koel’s page on IMDB lists 30 credits for various films and TV shows dating back to 2014, including Deadpool, War for the Planet of the Apes and Star Trek Beyond. His latest project was for the TV series The Detour.
