RCMP charge 9 with cocaine trafficking in northern Saskatchewan

La Loche RCMP said nine people were charged with cocaine trafficking over a one-month period in an effort to combat the sale of illicit drugs in the northern Saskatchewan community.

Police said a total of 57 charges were laid as a result of three Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) searches, and a significant amount of drugs and cash were seized.

The first search was executed at a home in the community on Jan. 30. Pierson Robert Piche, 49, Iris Lynette Herman, 40, and Topanga Piche, 20, were arrested.

All three La Loche individuals remain in custody until their next provincial court date on March 18.

Three people were arrested for drug and gun offences during another search of a home on Feb. 13.

Aaron Joseph Lemaigre, 20, who is from the Clearwater River First Nation, Tyler Lemaigre, 23, and Zakeisha Cougan, 18, who are both from La Loche, are expected to appear in La Loche provincial court on March 18.

Burton Lori Herman, 41, Norman Thomas Janvier, 60, and Andrea Michelle Montgrand, 36, were charged as a result of the most recent search on Feb. 28. All three are from La Loche.

All nine people are facing charges of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, and possession of property obtained by crime.

La Loche is roughly 605 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.
