A snowfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
The agency warns that some parts of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley could see between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow on Monday.
Global BC meteorologist Kristi Gordon said the bulk of that snow is expected to fall in the northern reaches of the region.
“Models are in fairly good agreement some areas of Metro Vancouver, mainly north of Fraser, will see a period of time when rain will transition to snow or wet snow,” said Gordon.
The North Shore, Vancouver, Burnaby, the Tri Cities and Maple Ridge could all see noticeable accumulations, with rain forecast to transition to the first flakes between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
“Not all neighbourhoods will see this transition,” added Gordon.
“As always it will be quite variable and dependent on localized temperatures.”
Gordon said it is possible that snowfall in some areas could linger into the morning hours for some areas of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
Snowfall warnings were also issued Monday for Whistler and the Sea to Sky corridor connecting to Squamish, with between 15 and 20 centrimetres of snow forecast.
A return to rain showers is expected by Tuesday afternoon.
