Police are investigating after a man was killed in an early morning shooting in Chilliwack Sunday.
RCMP were called to the 45700-block of Alexander Avenue just after 6:30 a.m. for a report of a man with gunshot wounds.
The man, who police say was in his early thirties, died at the scene of his injuries.
Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, adding the victim is known to police.
Staff Sgt. Steve Vrolyk of Chilliwack RCMP said the suspect is still at large and that no one else was hurt in the shooting.
He added it’s too early to say whether the incident is linked to the Lower Mainland gang conflict, but didn’t believe the public is at risk.
Coroners and police have been on scene of the shooting for hours, and are expected to remain well into the afternoon.
This is the third shooting Chilliwack has seen in two weeks.
On Feb. 26, 42-year-old Christine Denham of Chilliwack was shot at her home in the 9400-block of Victor Street. She died of her injuries in hospital on March 1.
The night before Denham died, a man was sent to hospital after a shooting behind the fire hall on South Sumas Road. That shooting happened while a sporting event was taking place at nearby Sardis Secondary School.
Anyone with information about this latest shooting is asked to call the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team or Chilliwack RCMP, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
