Abbotsford police have arrested two teens after an attempted robbery at the Sevenoaks Shopping Centre Wednesday.

Sgt. Judy Bird said in a news release the males attempted to steal a pair of sunglasses worth $700. When confronted by staff, the two ran away.

Bird said when the suspects were leaving the mall when one of them tried to use a conducted energy weapon on a mall security guard. Conducted energy weapons, commonly referred to as tasers, are used by several police forces as a less-than-lethal use of force.

Two suspects matching the descriptions given to police were arrested a short time later.

The teens, aged 18 and 17, remain in police custody facing numerous charges including robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with court orders.
