Nanaimo RCMP say a 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in a marked crosswalk on Wednesday.
Police said it happened around 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Hammond Bay Road and Ventura Drive.
Paramedics took the teen to a local hospital before he was airlifted to Victoria for further treatment.
Police said the 33-year-old driver remained at the scene and is co-operating with investigators.

According to police, witnesses say the boy had stepped into the crosswalk and was walking southbound across Hammond Bay Road when he was hit.
The teen is enrolled in School District 68, where grief counsellors have been made available to provide support for any staff or students who have been affected.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam video shot in the area at the time is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP.
