Man charged with assaulting Saskatoon police officer

A man is facing charges after Saskatoon police said an officer was assaulted during an arrest.

Patrol officers were called to a condominium in the 100-block of 23rd Street East Tuesday afternoon for a report of a suspicious person.

The caller told police a man was trying to enter a suite and was trying to hide.

Officers said they located the man, who was believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant.

He was arrested and as he was being taken to a patrol car, police said he became combative, caused a disturbance by lying in the street, and assaulted officers.

Police have not stated the nature of the assault or if any officers were injured.

A search of the 40-year-old Saskatoon man turned up a set of brass knuckles.

He is charged with resisting arrest, assaulting an officer, obstruction, and numerous weapons-related charges, along with breaching probation.
