GALLERY: Campaign against sexual assault launches second set of edgy posters

CALGARY – Organizers of a local sexual assault awareness campaign have released a new set of hard-hitting posters.

The ‘Don’t Be That Guy’ campaign aims to outline the laws of consent when it comes to sexual activity, and help prevent sexual assaults.

Organizers released their first round of posters when the campaign launched in October 2011.

Now, four new posters will be displayed on public transit and hung inside bars and clubs around Calgary.

The campaign is unique in that it targets those responsible for sexual offences, instead of teaching potential victims how to protect themselves.

“Most men will never commit a sexual offence, however, we know that the majority of reported sexual abuse and sexual assault offences are perpetrated by men,” says Staff Sergeant Ryan Jepson in a release. “In some studies, the percentage of reported offences committed by men is as high as 97 per cent.”

The latest phase of the campaign also moves to address sexual consent in same sex relationships.
