The Regina Police Service say there were 11 violent crimes involving firearms in January 2019, compared to 17 in January 2018.

Of those crimes, five people were injured, three more than a year ago, according to police.

Police say they seized 40 firearms in January 2019, one more than what they seized in January 2018. The five-year average for the month is 32.

More than 75 per cent of the firearms seized last month, were for public-safety reasons, according to police.

Police say two firearms were reported stolen in January 2019, compared to zero in January 2018.
