In this week’s episode of the Dark Poutine podcast, we look at the North Hollywood shootout.
On the morning of Feb. 28, 1997, two heavily armed men entered the Bank of America Branch on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in the North Hollywood district of Los Angeles.
A confrontation ensued between the two bank robbers, Larry Phillips Jr. and Emil Mătăsăreanu, and members of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
For over 44 minutes in a futile attempt at escape, the two men held off police and terrified a neighbourhood with automatic gunfire, all caught live on TV.
