A property owner in Hamilton has been convicted of smoke alarm offences following a fatal house fire.
Luciano Brancalion was convicted on Wednesday after pleading guilty in the Ontario Court of Justice to violating two requirements of the Ontario Fire Code.
He was convicted of failing to install smoke alarms in hallways serving sleeping areas and failing to maintain smoke alarms in operating condition at his property on Niagara Street, where in August 2016 a kitchen fire left three occupants of the home dead.
The fire began in the kitchen and quickly spread to the upper floors of the home.
Victoria Forrest, 26, her nine-year-old son, Robert, and 18-month-old daughter, Abby, were killed in the blaze.
He received 14 days in jail on each count, to be served concurrently.
