CALGARY – Southbound Deerfoot Trail between Highway 22X and Cranston Avenue/Seton Boulevard SE will be a very busy place nightly between April 21st to May 10th.

That’s because 40-tonne trucks will be moving thousands of cubic metres of rock and dirt as part of the Stoney Trail SE ring road construction.

Southbound Deerfoot Trail speeds will be reduced to 50km/hour in the construction zone and drivers can expect delays as the trucks haul materials across the road.

However, the work will be done at night between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. to try and minimize the impact on traffic.

Steps are also being taken to minimize the impact on nearby residents. Crews have built a 350-metre-long, three-metre-high berth to limit the noise. Night lighting will also be carefully positioned and truck back-up alarms will be muffled.

The new portion of the ring road will be open to traffic by the fall of 2013.
