The Calgary Police Commission announced Tuesday that the search for a new chief of police is moving slower than anticipated.

The committee was expected to make a recommendation by the end of February, but chair Brian Thiessen said it is “slightly” behind schedule.

“We seem to be really close to meeting our deadlines internally,” he said. “We have a number of process issues, so we have to bring it to commission, and then commission to city council. So there are some processes that will take a little longer, but we’re pleased. We have a great process going and we’re very happy with the progress we’re making.”

The search for a new Calgary Police Service chief began after Roger Chaffin retired last July. Veteran Calgary Police Service officer Steve Barlow is currently the interim chief.
