CALGARY- Police do not plan to lay charges against the ACAD student who chopped the head off of a chicken in the middle of the school’s cafeteria.

Officers were called to the school around noon on Thursday, after a student called to report someone was killing a chicken with a knife.

“He just slowly slit its throat, drained it, and this is happening while it’s alive…and then pulled his head off,” recalls Breydon Strangeland, who witnessed the incident. “He drew it out…more or less probably for the shock factor.”

Police say the act was a student’s interpretation of a school assignment requiring students to hold a public protest.

After consulting with the Crown, police determined the case does not meet the requirement for criminal charges, despite the trauma it caused other students. ACAD is currently investigating.
