The City of Winnipeg‘s Chief Administrative Officer will be retiring this spring.
Doug McNeil, Winnipeg’s CAO, announced his decision to step down at a press conference Thursday.
McNeil was hired as the city’s CAO in April 2015 after being unanimously recommended by the mayor and a council committee.
Prior to becoming CAO, McNeil had over three decades of experience in the public sector, including a stint with the Water and Waste Department where he led flood-fighting efforts during the 1997 “flood of the century”.

“Mr. McNeil’s leadership has helped make the City of Winnipeg one of the leaders in asset and project management,” Mayor Brian Bowman said.
“He has been a champion and supporter of the city’s reconciliation efforts, and he helped restore trust by updating the public service’s code of conduct and conflict of interest policies.”
Efforts to recruit McNeil’s replacement will be underway soon, beginning with the appointment of a new selection committee.
