Discovery of body on lease site north of Edmonton prompts RCMP investigation

The RCMP say they are investigating a suspicious death after a body was discovered on a lease site north of Edmonton on Monday.

In a news release issued Tuesday, police said they were contacted by a rural property representative at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday. The rep told police they had discovered the body on a lease site off Range Road 224, about 800 metres north of Highway 28.

The RCMP did not reveal the age or gender of the person who died.

“Redwater RCMP, Major Crimes North and Edmonton Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate the occurrence,” police said. “The investigation will be assisted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.”

Anyone with information about the death or any suspicious people or vehicles who were “in the immediate area leading up to the date in question,” is asked to call the Redwater RCMP detachment at 780-942-3600.
